Transformation

Aim: How Do We Identify Transformations?

A Transformation is when you move a geometric figure.
-Their are four types of Transformations which are:
-Translation
-Reflection
-Rotation
-Dilation

-A Translation is when every point is moved to the same distance in the same direction.
Examples:

-A Reflection  is when a figure is flipped over a line of symmetry.
Examples:

-A Rotation is when a figure is turned around a single point.

Examples:

-A Dilation is an enlargment or a reduction in the size of an image.
Examples:

2.  Which of the following transformations is illustrated by the graph at the right?
     [1]  dilation
     [2]  reflection in y = x
     [3]  translation
     [4]  reflection in the origin

Answer: [4]  reflection in the origin
